A Victorian terrace in Foxrock, reimagined for contemporary family life. The challenge was honouring the home’s original proportions — its tall ceilings, original coving, and deep sash windows — while weaving in a material palette that feels entirely present tense.
The Brief
Our clients had lived in the house for six years before approaching us. They loved the bones of it — the wide hallway, the south-facing garden room, the original fireplaces — but the interior had grown disconnected. They wanted cohesion, warmth, and rooms that could hold the chaos of family life without looking tired by Tuesday.
Materials & Palette
A honed Jura limestone runs through the ground floor. Walls throughout are painted in Farrow & Ball’s Wimborne White. Bespoke joinery — shelving flanking the chimney breast, a utility in deep forest green, floor-to-ceiling bookcases in natural oak — all finished with aged brass hardware.
The Kitchen & Garden Room
The kitchen extension opened the rear of the house to the garden through a large steel-and-glass sliding door. Soft sage green cabinetry, unlacquered brass taps, a Calacatta marble island, and open smoked oak shelving. The island doubles as a homework station — a USB panel, a drawer per child, and a surface that can take whatever the week throws at it.
The Bedrooms
The principal bedroom was designed as a retreat — linen curtains floor to ceiling, a headboard in deep charcoal boucle, a reading nook by the original fireplace. The children’s rooms feature built-in desks, reading nooks, and ample storage designed to grow with them.
